22 January 2021, Berlin: The President of the Bundestag, Wolfgang Schauble (M, CDU), and the President of the Assemblee nationale, Richard Ferrand, who is connected by video, open the fifth session of the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly, which takes place as a hybrid event, on the occasion of Franco-German Day. Sitting next to Schauble are Chairman Andreas Jung (l, CDU) and Andreas Scheuer (CSU), Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. Franco-German Day on 22 January commemorates the 1963 Elysee Treaty signed by Konrad Adenauer and Charles de Gaulle. The Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly, which meets twice a year, is composed of 100 members, including 50 members of the German Bundestag and 50 members of the Assemblee nationale.
