Lluís Companys was a politician of Catalanist and Republican ideology, leader of ERC. He was Spain's Minister of the Navy in 1933 and, from 1934 to 1940, president of the Generalitat de Catalunya. He was exiled in France after the Civil War, where he was captured by the Gestapo at the request of Franco's police. Afterwards, he was transferred to Spain, where he was finally shot in the castle of Montjuïc in 1940. This year marks the 84th anniversary of his death.
