PHOTO: Wojtek Laski / East News Honore de Balzac's long journey to the Ukrainian village Verhivnya (Wierzchownia) in Volyn province (Volhynia, western part of the Russian Empire) in 1847. In Wierzchownia had possession his longtime lover Ewelina Hanska (Eveline Hanska), later wife of Honore de Balzac. The journey of French writer led through Gliwice, Krakow, Brody, the Radziwill, Dubno, Ostrog, Novgorod Volyn, Zhytomyr and Berdychiv. Pictured: Former Eveline Hanska estate in Ukrainian country Wierzchownia. Nowadays the museum of Honore de Balzac situated in several rooms of the building. Contemporary view (May 18th 2001).
