PHOTO: EAST NEWS/AFP PHOTO Paul Gauguin's "Manao tupapau" (Spirit of the Dead Watching), an oil on burlap mounted on canvas done in 1892, is one of the highlights of "Gauguin in New York: The Lure of the Exotic," at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the first major exhibition of works by the French artist in New York in 40 years. This first time the Met has displayed its entire collection the artist's work. The work is on loan from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY.

The exhibition of Degas' collection, which includes paintings by Delacroix, Ingres, El Greco, Daumier, Manet and Cezanne, opens at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York 01 October.
